IMF staff reach agreement on Argentina third review

IMF staff and the Argentine authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on the third review of the Extended Fund Facility, which would give Argentina access to about US$900 million subject to Executive Board approval.

Why it matters: The agreement keeps the programme on track toward an early December board decision and records reserves running about US$4 billion ahead of the end-June target, the buffer Argentina is building against its 2027 foreign-currency payments.

Data as of IMF press release of October 27, 2026, read in full in this run from imf.org. Figures are the Fund's own statements in that release. The review is a staff-level agreement only; Executive Board approval is still required and is expected to be sought in early December. Developing item.

IMF staff and the Argentine authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on the third review of the 48-month Extended Fund Facility, the Fund said on Tuesday. Subject to Executive Board approval, Argentina would have access to about US$900 million (SDR 600 million), and the review is expected to go to the board in early December once the remaining agreed steps are completed.

The Fund said net international reserves exceeded the end-June target by about US$4 billion, the central bank has purchased close to US$16 billion so far this year, and approved investments under the RIGI incentive scheme now exceed US$76 billion. The policy package keeps the fiscal anchor at a primary surplus of 1.4 percent of GDP in 2026, with a similar effort in 2027, which the Fund said would make 2027 the fourth consecutive year of a primary surplus and an overall fiscal balance.
