The Office of Foreign Assets Control announced a $1,529,685 settlement with Extreme Networks on Tuesday over exports of networking equipment and related services to a blocked Russian defence manufacturer between September 2018 and March 2022.
Why it matters: The case shows US networking gear reaching a missile maker inside the Almaz-Antey group years before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and OFAC treated the conduct as egregious even though the company disclosed it voluntarily.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control said on Tuesday that Extreme Networks, a North Carolina headquartered cloud networking solutions provider, will pay $1,529,685 to settle apparent sanctions violations. Between September 2018 and March 2022, on nine occasions, the company exported networking equipment and related services from the United States to Joint Stock Company Moskovskiy Mashinostroitelniy Zavod Avangard, a Russian defence manufacturer that is blocked by operation of law and majority owned by the designated JSC Concern Almaz-Antey.
OFAC said the settlement amount reflects its determination that the apparent violations were voluntarily self-disclosed and egregious. No further breakdown of the penalty calculation appears in the agency’s release summary, which links the full enforcement release and the settlement agreement for the detailed findings.
