Qatar urged Iran on Tuesday to show goodwill by ending threats against countries in the region and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, as Qatari and Pakistani mediation between Tehran and Washington continued with no new proposal announced.
Why it matters: Qatar is one of the few channels still passing messages between Iran and the United States, and its public call, a day after Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish security chiefs met Iranian leaders in Tehran, shows the mediation track is active even as Hormuz crude flows run at about 60 percent of normal.

The 60 percent flow figure is ANZ research as cited by Euronews. Developing item.
Qatar urged Iran on Tuesday to end threats against countries in the region and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashmi, director of the Qatari foreign ministry’s media and communication department, telling a weekly briefing in Doha that Tehran had made positive statements but still needed to show goodwill. He said messages and ideas were still being exchanged with both sides in the mediation Qatar is running with Pakistan and other regional partners, and he announced no new proposal and no breakthrough.
The call followed talks in Tehran on Monday where Saudi Arabia’s defence minister, Pakistan’s army chief and Turkey’s intelligence chief met Iranian leaders, and Al Hashmi said Qatar and its Gulf neighbours were ready to join a regional security framework based on respect for sovereignty and a commitment not to attack one another. Euronews put crude flows through the strait at about 60 percent of normal, citing ANZ research.
