Apple launched a MacBook Pro with a full touchscreen on Wednesday, starting at 2,899 dollars for the 14 inch model, reversing a position the company held for more than a decade.
Why it matters: Touch reaches the Mac a day after the M6 refresh of the standard MacBook Pro, so Apple now sells two Pro lines at once, and the touchscreen model carries a 900 dollar premium over the M6 machine's starting price.

Apple launched its first MacBook Pro with a full touchscreen on Wednesday, in 14 inch and 16 inch sizes with a PROLED XDR display, M5 Pro and M5 Max chip options, up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory and a hinge designed to keep the screen stable under touch. The 14 inch model starts at 2,899 dollars and the 16 inch at 3,399 dollars, with preorders from October 30 and availability on November 6.
The launch reverses a long standing Apple position against touch on the Mac, a decade after the Touch Bar, which the company later removed. It follows yesterday’s M6 refresh of the standard 14 inch MacBook Pro, which starts at 1,999 dollars, so the touchscreen line sits well above it on price.
