China Gold International Resources has resumed open pit mining operations at its Chang Shan Hao (CSH) gold mine in Inner Mongolia after a nearly five month shutdown caused by slope instability, according to a company statement reported by Mining.com and the Northern Miner. Operations resumed in early October after the company completed remediation work and regulatory filings with the emergency management authorities, and the company kept its 2026 production guidance unchanged, expecting CSH to produce between 70,732 and 83,592 ounces of gold this year.
The halt began on May 22, 2026, after a localised slope instability incident. No casualties or equipment losses were reported. China Gold commissioned geotechnical assessments and completed remediation by the end of September, including road system restoration, removal of loose material and rocks, reinforcement of the landslide body, drainage systems and ongoing slope monitoring, after which the mine met the safety standards required to restart normal operations.
The processing plant kept operating through the shutdown on existing low grade ore stockpiles, which is how guidance survives a five month mining halt. With mining restored, the plan is to blend fresh mined ore with stockpiled ore to hold delivery volumes and processing grades steady for the rest of 2026, alongside continued safety risk controls. CSH produced 96,816 ounces of gold in 2025, so the held guidance range implies a materially weaker year even in the successful restart case.
China Gold International’s other operation, the Jiama copper gold polymetallic mine in Tibet, produced 70,883 tonnes of copper and 61,218 ounces of gold in 2025, which makes the group a two asset producer where either mine’s availability moves the consolidated result. Shares rose 2.4 percent to C$33.03 by midday Tuesday in Toronto, valuing the company at about C$13 billion, a relief move rather than a growth re rating: the market is paying for the removal of restart risk, with the slope monitoring record and fourth quarter grade delivery now the evidence to watch.
