Infrastructure Wednesday, October 28, 2026 - Updated Oct 28, 2026 07:09

The roundup holds a $108 million battery round led by GM Ventures, a $25.1 billion nine month solar funding tally, two reported Bloomberg bank items, and a 53 percent rally in Kenya Pipeline shares since the Dangote stake purchase.

Why it matters: The second tier shows the same pattern as the full stories: debt is doing the work in solar, insurers are trimming private market ambitions at the margin, and strategic stakes in African midstream assets are repricing fast.

Data as of Items reported October 27 to 28, 2026. The Broadcom and Scotiabank items are single-sourced Bloomberg headlines, flagged in the body. The Kenya Pipeline item updates this site's story of October 21, 2026.

Peak Energy raises $108 million. Peak Energy, a sodium-ion battery manufacturer, has raised $108 million in an oversubscribed Series B round led by General Motors Ventures, with Maverick Silicon, Infinite Capital, Eclipse, Xora Innovation and LG Technology Ventures also participating, Mercom Capital reported. The company will use the funds to expand domestic manufacturing, fulfil more than $1 billion in existing customer orders and enter the data centre market.

Solar funding reaches $25.1 billion in nine months. Total solar corporate funding in the first nine months of 2026 stood at $25.1 billion, 45 percent higher than the $17.3 billion raised in the same period of 2025, across 172 deals against 127, Mercom Capital reported. Debt did the work: announced debt financing totalled $20.4 billion in 80 deals, up 61 percent, while venture funding fell 31 percent to $2 billion. Third quarter funding alone was $8.2 billion across 77 deals, with 71 project acquisitions totalling 9.2 gigawatts.

Banks eye $21 billion of bonds for the Broadcom financing. Banks are considering about $21 billion of bond financing for the Broadcom organised chip financing behind Anthropic’s compute build, Bloomberg reported, an update to the $63 billion Northstar structure covered on this site on October 27, in which Broadcom’s own filing capped its residual value backstop at about $43 billion. Single-sourced: Bloomberg.

Scotiabank plans a $2 billion risk transfer. Bank of Nova Scotia is planning a significant risk transfer transaction tied to about $2 billion of loans, Bloomberg reported. No terms were published in the report available to this run. Single-sourced: Bloomberg.

Insurers trim private market plans. The share of insurers planning to increase private market allocations fell from 94 percent to 76 percent in BlackRock’s latest survey, AltAssets reported, a cooling signal at the margin from one of private credit’s core buyer groups, even as three quarters still plan to add.

Kenya Pipeline shares jump 53 percent. Kenya Pipeline Company shares have risen to 13.80 shillings, about 53 percent above the 9.02 shilling level at which the Dangote group’s block purchase was executed on October 19, BusinessDay reported, with the stock closing at 12.55 shillings on October 27 after a 9.1 percent daily gain. The move extends the repricing of the 24.76 percent stake purchase, valued at 42.5 billion shillings, about $327 million, covered on this site on October 21.

Nestoil pays a further $40 million. Nigerian oil company Nestoil has paid a further $40 million to lenders following intervention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Premium Times reported, taking the total recovered in the investigation to $100 million according to commission reporting carried in the Nigerian press.
