Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power said on Thursday that it has ended negotiations with the Daewoo Engineering and Construction and Doosan Enerbility consortium over the construction contract for the Dukovany nuclear plant in the Czech Republic, after the two sides failed to agree on key contract terms, and that it will prepare a tender to select a new construction contractor.
Why it matters: The construction contract is the largest single work package inside KHNP's roughly 25 trillion won Dukovany project, the Czech Republic's biggest energy investment, so losing the original Team Korea builders and retendering the work puts the project schedule, which has construction starting in 2029, at risk before ground is broken.
Data as of Yonhap report of October 29, 2026 (in Korean), read in full in this run, reporting Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power's explanatory statement issued that morning in Sejong. The statement is the only source: neither Daewoo Engineering and Construction nor Doosan Enerbility is quoted, and no Czech official comments, so this item is single-sourced and graded C. Developing item.
Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) said it will end its negotiations with the consortium of Daewoo Engineering and Construction and Doosan Enerbility over the construction contract for the two new reactors at Dukovany in the Czech Republic, Yonhap reported. KHNP said the two sides had tried working-level talks, a dispute adjustment committee and management-level negotiations, but could not close their differences over key contract terms, and it did not name the terms in dispute.
KHNP said it is starting procedures to terminate its joint cooperation agreement with the consortium and is preparing countermeasures that include a tender to select a new construction contractor. Daewoo and Doosan were part of the original Team Korea group that won the Dukovany order with KHNP, alongside KEPCO Engineering and Construction, KEPCO Nuclear Fuel and KEPCO KPS. The project, two 1,000 megawatt class APR1000 reactors, is costed at about 407 billion Czech koruna, roughly 25 trillion won, and construction has been scheduled to begin in 2029.
