General Compute raises 100 million dollars at 800 million valuation

Neocloud startup General Compute has raised 100 million dollars in a Series A led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures at an 800 million dollar post money valuation, up from 60 million dollars in May.

Why it matters: A thirteen fold valuation rise in five months for a compute reseller is the private market's answer to predictions of a neocloud shakeout: demand for any available AI capacity is still outrunning the supply of it.

Data as of Funding round reported October 27, 2026 by TechCrunch from an interview with the company's chief executive, corroborated by Datacenter Dynamics on October 28, 2026; capacity figures for 2027 are the chief executive's expectations as reported, not contracted results.

AI cloud startup General Compute has raised 100 million dollars in a Series A funding round led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures. The round values the company at 800 million dollars post money, up from a 60 million dollar valuation in May of this year, when it raised 15 million dollars of seed funding. In July the company secured 400 million dollars in debt financing.

Founder and Chief Executive Finn Puklowski told TechCrunch the funding showed that recent predictions of mass neocloud failure were massively overstated, saying customers call every week asking for TPUs, GPUs or any chip that adds compute. He said he expects General Compute to deploy 75 megawatts of computing capacity in 2027 and to have access to 200 megawatts, which he described as more than the company can probably fund and equip.

General Compute, founded in 2025 by Puklowski and Chief Technology Officer Jason Goodison, sells access to a wide variety of AI hardware rather than a single chip line. Earlier this month it signed a multi-year agreement to deploy Cerebras wafer scale systems on its platform from the first quarter of 2027, and last week it announced plans to buy AI systems from chip startup Positron AI, also for availability in the first quarter of 2027.

The round is a useful market signal because neoclouds sit at the most contestable layer of the AI stack: they own no models and no chips, only contracted capacity and customer relationships. An 800 million dollar valuation for a company founded last year says investors still price that layer on scarcity, not on consolidation risk.
