An explosion in the gunpowder burning area of the Fábrica de Municiones de Granada in El Fargue shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday lightly injured three workers, who were treated for hearing effects, and the plant was evacuated while police explosives specialists investigated.
Why it matters: The factory, owned by Slovakia's MSM Group within Czechoslovak Group, produces ammunition and missile components supplied to Ukraine, so any halt at the plant bears on a European supply chain already running at capacity.
Data as of EFE report of October 30, 2026, in Spanish, and Diario Avanza report of October 30, 2026, in Spanish, reporting the 112 Andalusia emergency service and Granada local police, both retrieved in full in this run; PiQ Markets summary of ABC reporting read in full in this run. Injury counts differed in early reporting: the National Police initially put the injured at two and the UGT union at three, all light; later Granada reporting put the total treated at five, two of them for burns at the scene. The cause is under investigation and has not been established.
An explosion in the gunpowder burning area of the Fábrica de Municiones de Granada, in the El Fargue district of Granada, shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday lightly injured three workers, the 112 Andalusia emergency service said. The first emergency call came at 8:57 a.m., more than thirty calls followed, and the three workers were taken to the Hospital Virgen de las Nieves for assessment of hearing effects from the blast. Local police said the explosion happened in the plant’s gunpowder burning area, a restricted zone, and checks of nearby homes found no structural damage.
The plant was evacuated while National Police explosives specialists, the TEDAX unit, worked at the site. The UGT union said a routine test was apparently under way when something failed, and the cause remains under investigation. The factory is owned by Slovakia’s MSM Group, part of Czechoslovak Group, and produces ammunition and missile components supplied to Ukraine; the group located the blast in the area where obsolete or damaged ammunition is destroyed and said it did not expect a significant long term effect on the plant’s activity.
