Spain’s annual consumer price inflation was 4.9 percent in October, the same rate as in September, according to the flash estimate the National Statistics Institute (INE) published on Friday. Prices rose 0.6 percent on the month. Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, was 3.1 percent, and the harmonised index also rose 4.9 percent year on year, one tenth lower than in September, with a monthly rise of 0.5 percent. The INE said falling prices for fuels and lubricants for private vehicles pulled the annual rate down, as did food and clothing prices rising less than a year earlier, while package holidays, gas and liquid fuels pushed it up. The figures are a preview of the final data, which the INE will publish next month.
Spain inflation holds at 4.9 percent in October flash
Spain's consumer price inflation held at 4.9 percent year on year in October, unchanged from September, with core inflation at 3.1 percent, the INE's flash estimate showed.
Why it matters: Inflation stuck just under 5 percent in one of the euro area's largest economies, a day after the European Central Bank held rates, keeps the energy driven price surge at the centre of the bank's rate debate.
