Elbit Systems said on Monday it had been awarded a contract worth about $170 million by Israel's Ministry of Defense to build and operate a training and simulation centre for the IDF Artillery Corps over 15 years.

Why it matters: The award ties Elbit to the Artillery Corps' shift onto its own ROEM self-propelled gun and LAHAV rocket launcher, and adds a long-duration services contract to the company's Israeli order book.

Elbit Systems said it had been awarded a contract valued at about $170 million by the Israel Ministry of Defense to establish and operate an advanced training and simulation centre for the Israel Defense Forces Artillery Corps, to be performed over 15 years. The centre is intended to support the operational integration of the ROEM (SIGMA) self-propelled artillery system and the LAHAV (PULS) precision rocket launcher into the corps.

Under the contract Elbit will deliver mission and driving simulators, training classrooms and dedicated facilities, and will provide training, maintenance and support services throughout the period. Boaz Cohen, the company’s general manager for land and armaments, said the project would support the corps’ next-generation land firepower array.
