Japan climate transition five year auction clears at par

Rates Monday, November 2, 2026 - Updated Nov 2, 2026 07:12

Japan's Ministry of Finance sold 249.8 billion yen of five year climate transition bonds on Monday at a highest accepted yield of 2.200 percent, drawing 959.9 billion yen of competitive bids.

Why it matters: The climate transition line is Japan's labelled funding vehicle, and a clean auction at the coupon, with bids covering the sale about 3.8 times, shows the labelled curve pricing like the conventional curve rather than at a concession.

Data as of Ministry of Finance auction result for November 2, 2026, read in full in this run. The bid cover figure is computed from the ministry's own bid and acceptance amounts. Single primary source: the ministry is the source of record for its auction results.

Japan’s Ministry of Finance auctioned the sixth issue of its five year climate transition bonds on Monday, selling 249.8 billion yen against 959.9 billion yen of competitive bids, a cover of about 3.8 times. The bonds carry a nominal coupon of 2.2 percent, were priced at 100.00 per 100 yen of face value, and cleared at a highest accepted yield of 2.200 percent, exactly at the coupon.

Bids at the highest accepted yield were allotted at 35.2066 percent, the ministry said. The issue settles on November 4, 2026 and matures on September 20, 2031.

A stop at par with no tail against the coupon is the orderly outcome the debt office aims for in the labelled programme, where a weak result would raise questions about whether transition bonds need a pricing concession. Monday’s result instead places the climate transition five year on the same footing as conventional issuance of similar maturity.

The auction sits inside a full November calendar. The ministry has also announced 30 year JGB issuance for November and a Treasury discount bill auction on November 9, both logged in today’s roundup, while the Bank of Japan holds its policy rate at 1.25 percent after its October 29 to 30 meeting.
