Ontario fast tracks Mayfair Gold Fenn-Gib permitting

Mining Monday, November 2, 2026 - Updated Nov 2, 2026 07:08

Mayfair Gold's Fenn-Gib project in the Timmins region has been designated under Ontario's One Project, One Process framework, which the company expects will let it secure the permits for a construction decision as early as 2028.

Why it matters: Ontario is testing whether a single window permitting model can cut review times by half without dropping standards or Indigenous consultation, and Fenn-Gib, with commercial operations possible as early as 2030, is now one of its named test cases.

Data as of Designation announced November 2, 2026; SEC Form 6-K filed November 2, 2026, accession 0001062993-26-005636, dedup checked against the previous three days of story files with no match. Fenn-Gib is a pre construction development project; the 50 percent review time reduction is the Ontario framework's stated objective, and the jobs and GDP figures are the Ontario minister's, quoted in the company release.

Mayfair Gold has announced that its wholly owned Fenn-Gib gold project, in the Timmins region of northern Ontario, has been selected as a designated project under the Government of Ontario’s One Project, One Process framework. Under the framework, the Ministry of Energy and Mines acts as a single point of contact to coordinate all necessary provincial approvals and Indigenous consultation, with the stated objective of reducing government review times by 50 percent.

Mayfair expects the designation to accelerate progress toward a construction decision. The company said it expects to secure the permits required to make that decision as early as 2028, and that commercial operations could begin as early as 2030. The project remains at the development and permitting stage; designation changes the process and the timeline confidence, not the project’s technical or financing readiness.

Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Stephen Lecce, used the announcement to make the province’s competitiveness case, saying permitting delays had stood in the way of getting Ontario’s resources to market and that the framework is intended to deliver a one stop shop for mining permitting. He said Fenn-Gib is expected to create over 700 jobs and add approximately 3 billion dollars to provincial GDP, and that the government plans to further accelerate permitting this autumn.

Mayfair chief executive Drew Anwyll said the designation is fundamental to the company’s strategy for advancing Fenn-Gib through permitting and design into construction and operations faster than previous industry timelines. The framework is explicitly paired with maintained standards and Indigenous consultation, which is the balance the province has to prove in practice: coordination by a single ministry only shortens timelines if the underlying reviews genuinely run in parallel.

Fenn-Gib now joins the short list of Canadian projects where the permitting regime itself is the catalyst. The dated markers to watch are the permit sequence through 2028 and whether other Ontario designations follow at the same pace, which would show whether One Project, One Process is a system or a showcase.
