Mining also notable: Broken Hill silver high, MinRes CFO retires

Mining Monday, November 2, 2026 - Updated Nov 2, 2026 07:08

Broken Hill Mines produced 102,922 ounces of silver in the September quarter, its highest since June 2020, Mineral Resources chief financial officer Mark Wilson will retire at the end of December, and Glencore is reported to be reshaping chief executive Gary Nagle's takeover pay terms.

Why it matters: The smaller items carry the week's operational texture: a silver producer compounding throughput at Rasp, an orderly finance handover at a diversified major, exploration depth building at Regis and Global Lithium, and a takeover clause at Glencore that prices executive incentives into any future bid.

Data as of Items published November 1 to 2, 2026. The Glencore item is single origin: Reuters reporting the Financial Times report, with Glencore declining to comment; it is carried at grade C within this roundup. Drill intercepts are exploration results, not resource estimates. The Namibia uranium item is headline only and unverified in this run.

Broken Hill Mines recorded its highest quarterly silver production since June 2020, producing 102,922 ounces in the September quarter as ore mined reached a record 142,523 tonnes, up 6.9 percent on the previous quarter, and ore processed rose 8.2 percent to 129,084 tonnes at the Rasp plant in New South Wales. Quarterly sales revenue was 37.6 million Australian dollars against cash operating costs of 33.4 million, and total liquidity stood at 112.9 million after the second tranche of an 85 million dollar capital raise. Drilling in the Centenary Zone returned 25.8 metres at 11.7 percent zinc equivalent and 323 grams per tonne silver equivalent from 415.1 metres, and the company is finalising a maiden exploration target for Centenary.

Mineral Resources said chief financial officer Mark Wilson will retire at the end of December 2026, ending a tenure that began in August 2018 and spanned the diversified miner’s transformation into a major iron ore and lithium producer. Executive general manager of finance Jonathan Cowper will act as chief financial officer from January 2027 while the company runs a formal search. Wilson stayed through the company’s governance overhaul and the clearing of an ASIC investigation without enforcement action in September 2026.

Glencore is proposing to change chief executive Gary Nagle’s pay package so his long term share awards vest more quickly if the company is taken over and he is replaced, the Financial Times reported, in a story carried by Reuters on Monday. The proposal would also lift the upper limit of his career shares range by slightly more than 10 percent and add an inflation related increase to fixed pay; his total pay was 7.5 million dollars in 2025. Glencore declined to comment. The change of control terms matter because Glencore and Rio Tinto shelved merger talks in February that would have created the world’s largest miner. This item is single origin, the FT via Reuters, and is flagged accordingly.

Regis Resources reported exploration progress across its Australian gold portfolio, with resource definition drilling completed at Beamish South ahead of an updated mineral resource estimate. Beamish South, with an initial resource of 7 million tonnes at 1.1 grams per tonne gold for 270,000 ounces, returned 14.3 metres at 4.6 grams per tonne from 304 metres. At Tropicana, 105 holes for 41,599 metres returned intercepts including 26 metres at 6.6 grams per tonne from 145 metres at Havana, and drilling beneath the Moolart Well open pits hit fresh rock mineralisation below deposits previously mined mainly in the regolith.

Global Lithium has begun early works at its Manna lithium project, 110 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie, after securing its native vegetation clearing permit with no appeals and its mining development and closure proposal approval in August. Grade control drilling designed to support the first eight months of mining is scheduled to start in early November. The Manna and Nova integration study cut estimated pre production funding by 59 percent to 180.1 million Australian dollars by using IGO’s existing Nova processing infrastructure, and lifted estimated post tax net present value to 945.7 million. Global Lithium’s proposed 333 million dollar takeover by Titan Australia Mining, at 1.15 dollars a share under a scheme with a shareholder meeting on December 22, remains subject to approvals.

Ur-Energy’s chief financial officer and chief administrative officer Roger Smith notified the company on October 28 of his intention to retire effective December 1, 2026, according to an 8-K filed November 2 (accession 0001104659-26-120879). Smith is expected to serve as a financial adviser under a consulting agreement after the retirement date. The filing is an officer transition at a producing United States uranium miner, not an operational change.

Two pool items could not be verified in this run and are recorded, not reported. The Namibian reported that Namibia’s Leonardville uranium project, associated with Rosatom, has been approved; the page could not be opened and no second source was checked, so no claim is made. In Ghana, Northern Ashanti Mines said Chinese nationals were introduced to its concession after the NAIMOS takeover of the site, a company complaint that follows Saturday’s story on the taskforce’s shift to holding cleared sites; the page could not be opened in this run and the claim is carried here as the company’s allegation only, unverified.
