Nine exchange-traded funds favoured by China's state-backed national team drew 76.7 billion yuan in inflows on Tuesday, the second largest on record, as state funds and listed companies stepped up support for a slumping market, Bloomberg reported.
Why it matters: Inflows on this scale are the clearest sign yet that Beijing is escalating its market defence from guidance and relending tools to direct buying, and the size of the flow will be read as a measure of official concern about the selloff.

China escalated its defence of its stock market on Tuesday, Bloomberg reported, as state-backed funds and listed companies stepped up support. A basket of nine exchange-traded funds favoured by the so-called national team drew 76.7 billion yuan ($11.5 billion) in inflows on the day, the second largest on record and the most since April 8, 2025, when markets were hit by the US tariff announcement.
Listed companies also stepped up share buybacks, according to the report, though the portion of the article available to read named no companies or amounts. The buying follows a run of official support measures this month, including a regulators and banks meeting on capital market tools and a decision to make the buyback relending facility permanent.
