Jacobs will provide integrated program delivery services for American Electric Power's transmission portfolio, part of the utility's plan to invest $37 billion in transmission infrastructure over the next five years across seven states.
Why it matters: AEP operates the largest US transmission system, and a $37 billion five year buildout is one of the biggest single utility grid programs tied to rising electricity demand from data centers and industry.

American Electric Power has picked Jacobs to provide integrated delivery services across its transmission portfolio, part of a plan to invest $37 billion in transmission infrastructure over the next five years. The work covers Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, and Jacobs will oversee project management, project controls, engineering and design, siting, outreach, right-of-way and environmental services.
The award lands as private electric power construction spending rose 14 percent year over year in September and data center construction spending jumped 90 percent, according to Associated General Contractors of America figures cited in the report. Jacobs recently reported a record $28.9 billion backlog in its fiscal third quarter, driven largely by infrastructure and data center demand.
