US job openings were little changed at 7.5 million in September, a rate of 4.5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said, while quits rose to 3.4 million and layoffs were little changed at 1.6 million.
Why it matters: Openings held up rather than falling further, and the rise in quits points to a labour market that cooled earlier without a fresh deterioration in September, one of the last labour readings before the December FOMC meeting.
Data as of US Bureau of Labor Statistics JOLTS release USDL-26-1630 of November 3, 2026, for September 2026; figures are seasonally adjusted and preliminary, and August figures were revised in the same release. Developing item.
