Rates also notable: Spain tourism, credit unions, Ghana inflation

Rates Tuesday, November 3, 2026 - Updated Nov 3, 2026 07:07

Overnight stays in Spain's non-hotel tourist accommodation fell 1.5 percent year on year in September, UK regulators opened a consultation on credit union reform, and Ghanaian analyst Theo Acheampong projected Ghana's inflation staying below 10 percent for the next three to four years.

Why it matters: Each item prices something smaller than a policy decision: Spanish tourism demand into the winter season, the UK's mutual lending sector, and the credibility of Ghana's disinflation for cedi yields.

Data as of INE provisional data for September 2026, published November 3, 2026 (in Spanish). Bank of England release of November 3, 2026. Ghana projection is a single analyst's view reported by MyJoyOnline on November 3, 2026, flagged as such. RBA, Hong Kong GDP and SARB items below are references to stories already published, not new reporting.

Spain’s non-hotel tourist accommodation recorded 1.5 percent fewer overnight stays in September 2026 than in the same month of 2025, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said in provisional data published on Tuesday. The series covers apartments, campsites, hostels and rural accommodation rather than hotels, and a year on year fall in the shoulder season is a soft signal on the tourism demand that has carried Spanish services exports.

In London, the Bank of England said regulators are exploring reforms to the credit union sector intended to support growth, innovation and better outcomes for members. The item is regulatory rather than monetary, but credit unions are part of the UK’s deposit and consumer credit plumbing, and the consultation is the week’s small print for mutual lenders.

In Accra, economist Theo Acheampong projected that Ghana’s inflation will stay below 10 percent for the next three to four years, MyJoyOnline reported. That is one analyst’s projection, not an official forecast, and it is flagged as such; it matters because Ghanaian local currency yields price exactly that credibility question. Separately, allAfrica carried reporting that Botswana’s inflation outlook faces an El Nino threat, a weather channel into food prices that the region’s central banks are watching into 2027.

Already published and not duplicated here: the Reserve Bank of Australia’s rise to 4.85 percent, covered in full in the November 2 edition’s RBA story (CNBC’s Tuesday framing calls it an 18 year high for the cash rate); Hong Kong’s third quarter GDP growth of 5.2 percent, published today; and the South African Reserve Bank’s move of the Jibar cessation date to May 31, 2027, published today. The Fiscal Service’s formal savings bond release of November 2 confirmed the Series EE fixed rate of 2.90 percent for bonds issued from November 2026 through April 2027; the October 30 Series I story has been updated in place with that rate rather than duplicated.
