TerraVolt buys Idaho site for 240 megawatt gas campus

TerraVolt has acquired 1,077 acres in Cassia County, Idaho, for a master planned data centre campus built around 240 megawatts of on site gas generation, with a firm supply agreement for 55,000 MMBtu of gas a day.

Why it matters: The project is another behind the meter build that skips the grid interconnection queue entirely, selling shovel ready powered sites to operators instead of waiting years for a utility connection.

TerraVolt has acquired 1,077 acres in Cassia County, Idaho, where it plans a master planned data centre campus supported by an initial 240 megawatts of on site gas generation. The site is already zoned for multiple uses and sits close to the Williams Northwest natural gas pipeline, and TerraVolt said it has signed an agreement for 55,000 MMBtu of gas a day from the pipeline.

The campus is designed to run off grid, which the company said avoids interconnection delays and insulates local ratepayers from grid strain. TerraVolt plans to develop the site and then sell shovel ready plots to data centre operators, providing power, fibre, water and wastewater services under a long term infrastructure services agreement. TerraVolt was launched by CalEthos in July 2025 as an infrastructure as a service platform, after pivoting from geothermal energy to natural gas.
