Google plans to invest $15 billion in Malaysian data centre infrastructure during 2027 and 2028, expanding its Elmina campus in Selangor and building new campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, with 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity to be added to the national grid.

Why it matters: The pledge is seven times the $2 billion commitment Google made in Malaysia in 2024 and adds a 500 megawatt to 1 gigawatt Port Dickson campus to the Southeast Asian buildout, with power and water infrastructure funded alongside the computing capacity.

Google plans to invest $15 billion to expand its data centre infrastructure in Malaysia during 2027 and 2028, funding new computing hubs and water and power infrastructure. Investment will focus on the existing campus in Elmina Business Park, Selangor, and on new campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, including the Port Dickson site where Google bought 389 acres last year and where reported capacity runs from 500 megawatts to 1 gigawatt, with Gamuda Engineering handling engineering and infrastructure works.

The company says the projects are expected to support more than 9,000 local jobs a year, and that it plans to bring 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity to Malaysia’s grid as it builds. Alphabet chief investment officer Ruth Porat said the investment reflects confidence in Malaysia’s leadership, workforce and enthusiasm for digital transformation, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the country has the stability, talent and ambition to be a digital powerhouse in Southeast Asia. The pledge builds on Google’s $2 billion commitment in 2024 and its $160 million water infrastructure commitment in Negeri Sembilan earlier this week.
