Japan's services PMI was confirmed at 51.7 for October, up from 51.3 in September but below the 52.0 flash estimate, a fifth straight month of expansion, S&P Global data showed.
Why it matters: Services are carrying Japanese growth while manufacturing cools, and easing input price inflation alongside the weakest business confidence since March gives the Bank of Japan a mixed picture rather than a case for urgency.

Japan’s service sector expanded for a fifth consecutive month in October. The final S&P Global services PMI came in at 51.7, up from 51.3 in September but below the flash estimate of 52.0, with new orders rising for a 28th straight month and growth in orders accelerating on stronger domestic demand.
The composite PMI eased to 52.1 from 52.3, the softest pace of overall growth since May, as stronger services were offset by slower manufacturing output. Input price inflation slowed for a fourth month to an eight month low and output price inflation also moderated, while business confidence fell to its lowest since March.
