Minghui licenses thyroid eye disease antibody to ASKA

Life Sciences Wednesday, November 4, 2026 - Updated Nov 4, 2026 07:05

Minghui Pharmaceutical will receive 110 million dollars upfront from ASKA Pharmaceutical for exclusive Japanese rights to MHB018A, its IGF-1R antibody for thyroid eye disease.

Why it matters: A 110 million dollar upfront payment for single country rights underlines how valuable subcutaneous alternatives to infused thyroid eye disease treatment have become, and it funds Minghui while it runs four pivotal trials itself.

Data as of License agreement announced November 4, 2026; all terms from the companies' joint release of that date.

Minghui Pharmaceutical has granted ASKA Pharmaceutical exclusive rights to develop, seek approval for and commercialise MHB018A in Japan. MHB018A is a humanised, subcutaneously administered antibody targeting the insulin like growth factor 1 receptor, developed for active and chronic thyroid eye disease. Minghui retains all rights outside Japan and continues to lead global development.

The economics are substantial for a regional licence. Minghui receives an upfront payment of 110 million dollars and is eligible for up to 330 million dollars more in development, regulatory and commercial milestones, plus tiered royalties up to the mid 30 percent range on Japanese net sales. Stifel acted as exclusive financial adviser to Minghui.

The asset is already in a large late stage programme. Minghui is running four randomised pivotal Phase 3 studies in active and chronic thyroid eye disease, two in China and two global studies with sites in the United States, Europe, Japan and other regions. Phase 2 data presented at ENDO 2026 showed improvements across multiple endpoints with no new or unexpected safety signals, according to the companies.

Thyroid eye disease treatment is currently dominated by infused therapy, so a subcutaneous option that patients could receive without infusion visits carries a clear commercial claim if the pivotal data hold. ASKA, listed in Tokyo, gains a late stage specialty asset for its home market, while Minghui converts one territory into non dilutive funding without giving up the United States or Europe.
