The chairs of the House foreign affairs, China select and intelligence committees, Brian Mast, John Moolenaar and Rick Crawford, wrote to Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang inviting him to a closed door, in person joint briefing on November 18, CNBC reported. The letter asks about his relationship with Alice Huang, a Megaspeed executive and Chinese citizen whom a New York Times report last week described as identified by US intelligence as funnelling information to Beijing, and about Nvidia’s security protocols against foreign adversary espionage. The lawmakers wrote that recent reports raise significant national security concerns regarding China’s access to sensitive US technology and information.
Nvidia did not confirm whether Huang would attend. The company told CNBC that its regional cloud customers receive ordinary business information, not sensitive Nvidia trade secrets and no information relevant to national security, that meetings with customers are part of a chief executive’s job, and that it is confident the US government would tell it if any person were a threat to American industry. The briefing date falls the day after Nvidia’s scheduled third quarter earnings report on November 17.
