OpenAI says enterprise is now majority of revenue

OpenAI President Greg Brockman said on November 4 that enterprise sales now generate the majority of the company's revenue and that he believes OpenAI will be ready to go public in 2027.

Why it matters: The revenue mix is the IPO story: a company that lists as an enterprise software business is priced differently from one that lists as a consumer subscription business.

Data as of Brockman remarks at a Wall Street Journal tech conference in Napa, California, November 4, 2026, reported by Reuters the same day. OpenAI has filed no public financials; reported annualized revenue figures in other coverage are estimates and are not relied on here.

OpenAI now generates the majority of its revenue from enterprise sales, President Greg Brockman said on November 4, and he believes the company will be ready to go public in 2027. Asked on stage at a Wall Street Journal tech conference in Napa, California whether OpenAI would be ready for an initial public offering next year, Brockman answered: I think so. Reuters reported the remarks the same day.

The mix shift is the substance. In March 2026 OpenAI said enterprise accounted for more than 40 percent of revenue and was on track to reach parity with consumer revenue by the end of 2026, while the business overall was generating 2 billion dollars of revenue a month. Brockman’s description moves past that target a year after, in his words, the company was not really in the enterprise game and was perceived as a consumer company.

The push centers on Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, sold into engineering teams in direct competition with Anthropic. Reuters reported Anthropic is likely to go public before the end of 2026, which puts a rival’s audited numbers and market pricing in front of investors before OpenAI’s own listing window. OpenAI filed IPO paperwork confidentially in June 2026, per earlier reporting, and has published no audited financials.

Brockman expressed confidence about readiness without committing to a date. What changed is the business an offering would present: enterprise majority revenue, a funding base broadened beyond a single partner, and an infrastructure commitment stack that public investors will be asked to underwrite.
