Alfa Laval agrees $700 million all-cash deal for NAVTOR

Alfa Laval has agreed to buy Norwegian maritime software company NAVTOR for 6.85 billion Swedish kronor, about $700 million, in an all-cash deal expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.

Why it matters: The deal, one of the largest in Alfa Laval's history, folds NAVTOR's navigation and fleet software into a digital shipping portfolio that already holds StormGeo and Portchain, as owners pay for voyage and port decisions made in real time.

Alfa Laval has entered a definitive agreement to acquire NAVTOR, the Egersund-based maritime software company founded in 2011, for 6.85 billion Swedish kronor, about $700 million, in cash. Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals, and the purchase will be funded from Alfa Laval’s cash and existing financing programmes.

NAVTOR employs about 400 people across 13 offices, serves customers in more than 90 countries and is expected to generate about $194 million in revenue this year, according to Alfa Laval. It will sit in the group’s Ocean Division alongside StormGeo and Portchain, combining navigation, vessel performance, voyage optimisation and port operations software. Alfa Laval also disclosed that a recent NAVTOR internal review identified unspecified compliance matters, and that arrangements protect the buyer against pre-acquisition liabilities tied to them.
