China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday that it firmly opposes US sanctions imposed on two Chinese companies over their alleged involvement with Cuba, urged Washington to correct the move, and reserved the right to take necessary measures in response.

Why it matters: The sanctions, announced by the US State Department on Thursday, are reported to be the first imposed on Chinese companies on Cuba-related grounds, and Beijing is framing them as part of a wider run of US restrictive measures against Chinese firms.

Data as of Ministry of Commerce spokesperson statement of Saturday November 7, 2026 in Beijing, read in full as republished by People’s Daily and Xinhua in this run; the US State Department announced the sanctions on Thursday November 5, US Eastern Time. Developing item.

China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday that the United States had imposed unilateral sanctions on Chinese companies on the grounds of their involvement with a third party, in violation of international law and basic norms of international relations, and that China firmly opposes the move. The spokesperson said the US had recently intensified sanctions and pressure on China through a series of discriminatory and restrictive measures that harm Chinese companies, run counter to the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and undermine the stability of China-US economic and trade relations.

The statement follows a foreign ministry response on Friday, when spokesman Guo Jiakun called the sanctions illegal and an example of long-arm jurisdiction. The two companies sanctioned on Thursday are the state-owned China National Electronic Import-Export Company (CEIEC) and Beijing H&C Technologies, accused of supplying Cuba’s armed forces with electronics and other security equipment.
