Blackstone has held the final close of Blackstone European Senior Direct Lending Fund IV, its fourth institutional fund for the strategy, the firm announced on November 4. Across the fund and other European direct lending vehicles, the strategy now represents about 13 billion euros of investable capital, including anticipated leverage.
The fund lends to European borrowers across the size spectrum, with a focus on the middle and upper middle market, where companies routinely borrow outside the bank market. Blackstone cited lead lender roles in financings for Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, the German regulatory software company Regnology, residential property manager Odevo and JTC among the strategy’s recent transactions.
The European business sits inside Blackstone Credit and Insurance alongside infrastructure debt, asset based credit and collateralised loan obligations. The firm has said it sees an opportunity to invest more than 500 billion dollars in European assets by 2035, and direct lending is the part of that ambition that produces fee income without needing asset sales to return capital.
The reconciliation point for readers is the headline number: 13 billion euros is platform capacity for the strategy, aggregated across vehicles and grossed up for expected leverage. It is not 13 billion euros of limited partner commitments to the fourth fund alone, and Blackstone has not disclosed the single fund’s standalone commitments in the material read for this story.
