NTT Data signs 900MW fuel cell deal with Bloom Energy

Infrastructure Friday, November 6, 2026 - Updated Nov 6, 2026 09:18

NTT Data has signed a 900MW deployment agreement with Bloom Energy to power data centers across its global portfolio with on-site solid oxide fuel cells, with initial shipments expected in 2027.

Why it matters: Bloom says it is its largest deal with a single data center developer, and it extends the run of operators buying on-site gas fuel cells to get capacity online faster than grid connections allow.

NTT Data has signed a 900MW deployment agreement with Bloom Energy to deploy solid oxide fuel cells on site across multiple data center projects worldwide, with initial shipments of the generators expected to start in 2027, Datacenter Dynamics reported. NTT Data Group operates more than 150 data centers in more than 20 countries, and Bloom said the agreement is its largest with a single data center developer.

“Our clients are building AI capabilities at a pace the grid alone cannot always match, and speed to power has become one of the defining factors in delivering capacity when and where it is needed,” said Doug Adams, chief executive of NTT Global Data Centers. Bloom’s fuel cells convert fuel, at present mostly natural gas, into electricity electrochemically without combustion, and the company has signed similar supply deals with Oracle, for up to 2.8GW, and with American Electric Power, for up to 1GW.
