Binance said chief financial officer Kaiser Ng is leaving to pursue a new venture, a little over a week after hackers stole $6.3 billion from the exchange, and named Justin Yek as his successor.
Why it matters: Ng ran Binance finance through the period in which the theft occurred, and his departure is the first senior exit since the exchange promised to cover all customer losses itself.

Binance co-chief executive Yi He said in a statement on Saturday that Kaiser Ng has decided to pursue a new venture after more than five years at Binance, with a transition plan implemented over the last half year. Ng has been chief financial officer since January 2022 and previously worked at rival exchange Kraken. He is replaced by Justin Yek, most recently vice-president of finance at Airwallex.
The announcement comes a little over a week after the October 29 theft of $6.3 billion from the platform, which Binance said began with malware and fake job recruitment efforts that compromised several employees’ computers. Binance froze withdrawals for several days, said it will bear the full cost of the stolen funds rather than pass losses to users, and, with the FBI, attributed the theft to the North Korean group TraderTraitor, an attribution North Korea has denied.
