Trump offers Dana White the White House press secretary job

Politics Saturday, November 7, 2026 - Updated Nov 7, 2026 14:43

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he has offered UFC president Dana White the job of White House press secretary, and White has not said whether he will take it.

Why it matters: The press secretary post has been vacant on a permanent basis since Karoline Leavitt left earlier this year, and a brief successor, Katie Zacharia, was dismissed in October after less than a week.

Data as of CNBC report of November 7, 2026, published 1:51 PM Eastern, and The Hill report of November 7, 2026, published 1:55 PM Eastern, both read in full in this run. Neither the White House nor the UFC had confirmed the offer or any acceptance when the reports were published. Developing item.

President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday that Dana White, president and chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has been offered the job of press secretary, asked him to bring named UFC fighters with him as assistants, and added, “Dana, please take the job!” White responded with an Instagram story showing himself at the White House briefing room lectern, captioned “On to the next chapter,” and it is unclear whether he has accepted the position or was acknowledging the request in jest.

The offer is the second senior White House staff move in two days, after Friday’s announcement that Stephen Miller will become chief of staff. The White House has been without a permanent press secretary since Karoline Leavitt left earlier this year; Katie Zacharia, briefly tapped for the job, was dismissed in October after less than a week and one short briefing, following reports that she had marketed herself as an attorney without passing the bar exam.
